Sonic Unleashed is an upcoming videogame that is being developed by Sega and is scheduled to be released in late 2008. It will be released on the Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, and the PS2. This game follows the Sonic the Hedgehog series and is the direct sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog (2006 version). Gameplay will consist of 2D and 3D modes and will seamlessly shift between the two. The main storyline is that Eggman has unleashed a beast from the center of the earth, which shatters the earth into pieces. Sonic must find all 7 Chaos Emeralds to reunite the 7 continents. A new twist in the game will cause Sonic to transform into a werewolf at night.
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood is an upcoming video game exclusively for the Nintendo DS. It is the first RPG to be based on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Sega is the publisher of this game, but BioWare, a Canadian RPG company, is developing it. Sonic Chronicles is scheduled to be released in either Fall or Winter of 2008. The storyline starts with Sonic on vacation after defeating Eggman. His vacation is interrupted when he receives a call from Tails, telling Sonic that Knuckles was kidnapped and the Chaos Emeralds disappeared. The story is split into two acts: Sonic’s world and a new darker world. Some new characters appear for the first time, including Shade and the Zoah.
Guest Appearance: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Sonic the Hedgehog makes a guest appearance in the Nintendo videogame, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He was the most requested third party character. He is one of the only two third party characters, the other being Solid Snake.
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity is a spin-off videogame for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. It was developed by Sega’s Sonic Team and was released on the Wii and PS2. This game is the sequel to Sonic Riders. The entire gameplay revolves around hoverboard racing and new gravity-defying abilities such as Gravity Dive, Gravity Control, and Gravity Drift. Zero Gravity features lots of new characters and extreme gear (hoverboards, air bikes, etc.). Using the new “Gear Change”, the player can swap gear in the middle of a race.
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Sonic and the Secret Rings is a videogame based on the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Sonic Team developed it exclusively for the Wii and it was the first Sonic game to be released on the Wii. The storyline and levels are based on Arabian Nights. Sonic is transported into the Arabian Nights world to stop the evil Erazor Djinn from taking over that world and even Sonic’s world. Shahra, a young genie, asks for Sonic’s help to collect the World Rings to stop Erazor Djinn. The gameplay is unlike other 3D Sonic games. It is in 3D but Sonic mostly stays on a set track. The game is played by holding the Wii Remote sideways and tilting it in different direction to move Sonic.
